Accomplishments
Performance
- Drove the establishment of a new UL Testing & Certification Laboratory, responding to high demand for new product testing in the Bay Area.
- Creating consumer materials to clarify and up-date technology performance metrics and system performance parameters, present new technologies and product selection guidelines.
- Designing a tool to project system output in annual kWh based on module and inverter ratings.
Workforce
- Awarded prestigious IDRC (Industry Driven Regional Collaborative) Grant to fund new training programs. Developed curriculum and created solar training programs across 5 Community College Districts in the South Bay Area in collaboration with SVLG, NOVA and the industry.
- Enrolled over 130 students in PV classes and created internship program, interacting with local industry for student hands-on training.
Financing
- Creating a financial decision matrix to determine possible financing structures, using the most widely used common financing alternatives as a founding structure: Capital Purchase, PPA, and Equipment Lease.
- Developing an online resource to bring together Purchasers and Providers.
- Preparing a standardized package to fast track the project through credit, creating a thorough project performance check list to ensure all the costs and production elements are well documented, complete, and accurate.
Installation
- Built consensus among installer and integrator members to establish a common set of best practices across the large diversity of practitioners.
- Developing installer guide to reduce building permit rejections correlated to inconsistent practices and quality, reducing compliance costs due to building permit rejections.
Interconnection
- Developing interconnection and incentive best practices to reduce processing times and becoming the benchmark to be used for other communities, utilities and states.
- Building consensus among permitting agencies and utilities to streamline new interconnection processes that eliminate the need for installers to use one standard process.
Permitting
- Developed Residential Permitting Standard Form that lowers costs for both cities and end users
- Leading efforts to streamline city permitting process, analyzing permitting data basis and collaborating with local industry groups (i.e. CALSEIA, SVLG) to suggest policy modifications to local city officials.
- Leading coordination efforts with key regional entities, including utilities, International Code Committee’s Solar Standards Subcommittee and local ABAG representatives to identify best permitting practices and to coordinate code standards on a regional basis.
